First of all, you need to know that college dating is a great opportunity to open the gates to a fun universe, unleash the energetic young lady that is crawling inside of you and get to know yourself better. It is also about making some new friends and acquaintances. So, no matter how successful or disastrous your college dating experiences might be, you are definitely going to have at least a couple of useful conclusions to draw. To help you out a bit on this journey, here are a few things you should consider before hitting the college dating scene.

“He’s cute, but we gotta do something about that hair.”

1. Expect to meet a lot of new people.

Diversity is the word that seems to best describe the college dating scene. Once you are away from your hometown and high school is nothing but a distant memory to you, it is time to start making some new acquaintances. Expect to see several hundred times as many students as compared to your old high school and think of all these people as your new dating pool. Students that come from abroad or other states could all become your future potential dates.

2. You shall have the opportunity to reinvent yourself.

Upon having a better chance of meeting someone new, you are also going to enjoy the unique opportunity of being able to completely reinvent yourself as a person. You can start to be a lot more outgoing, if you want to, you can be more courageous, and you can basically start from scratch with people you know nothing about. This is definitely prone to be fun and exciting!

3. You can date without being judged.

Your parents, grandparents, neighbors or siblings are not going to be nosing around anymore, and you will be able to date freely. Date guys who are of different races or religions or rebels, if you were never allowed to – the important thing is that you enjoy your new freedom and the new diversity you are about to discover.

4. Never neglect your exams and midterms.

This is another important aspect that you are going to have to keep a really close eye on, especially if you have a scholarship or if you are thinking of getting one next semester. Freedom is great but don’t spend the night over to your new college boyfriends’ when you know you have an important exam to attend to in the morning. Successfully juggling with your college dating life and your academic activity is going to prove to be one of the hardest things you have ever accomplished.

5. Focus on dating like-minded folks.

If you are into casual dating and your dating partner would like to take things to the next level, you might find yourself in a bit of  trouble. And vice verse. This is why it is essential to date like-minded people who desire the same things that you do.

6. The roommate problem.

Being away from home means being away from your parents and old room, but closer to your roommates and college dorm room. Privacy can prove to be quite an issue when it comes to college dating and you should establish some clear rules together with your roommate before you start dating in college.

7. Summer breaks.

Summer holidays are also going to pose some sort of risks on the college dating scene, as you might risk being away from your college lover for a few long months, during which anything could happen. Discussing this matter and setting some ground rules before you start to really date could help you out a lot.

8. You are probably going to need a job.

Like most students, you are also probably going to want or need to focus your attention on finding a job. It could affect your sorority joining plans, and your dates might also suffer some changes, but you are going to need to try to find the perfect balance.

9. Watch out for the booze.

Drinking in college has turned into some kind of a tradition – if you don’t drink, you are usually left out and considered some sort of outcast. Just make sure you don’t go on dates while you are drunk, as the threats of date rape are well-known. Alcohol might lower your inhibitions, and that usually never leads to anything good, so watch out for that also.
